Delicious mini blooming onions cooked to crispy perfection in an air fryer, served with a zesty dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Mini Onions (2-3 inches diameter)
  • All-Purpose Flour
  • Spices: Paprika, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Cayenne Pepper, Salt, Black Pepper
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1/4 cup Milk
  • Panko Breadcrumbs
  • Cooking Spray or Oil
  • For Dipping Sauce: Mayonnaise, Ketchup, Horseradish, Worcestershire Sauce, Spices

Instructions

  1. Trim the tops of the mini onions, leaving the root end intact.
  2. Peel away the skin and cut petals into each onion.
  3. Bloom the onions in ice water for 15-30 minutes.
  4. Combine flour and spices in a shallow dish.
  5. Whisk eggs and milk in a separate dish for egg wash.
  6. Coat the onions with the flour mixture, dip in the egg wash, and then roll in Panko breadcrumbs.
  7. Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 5 minutes.
  8. Spray breaded onions with oil and place in the air fryer basket.
  9. Cook for 12-18 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  10. Whisk together dipping sauce ingredients and refrigerate.
  11. Serve hot with dipping sauce.

Notes

Make ahead by preparing and coating onions in advance. Store in the fridge until ready to cook.
