A luxurious Italian dessert made with layers of espresso-soaked ladyfingers, mascarpone cheese, and a dusting of cocoa powder, promising a velvety treat with every bite.

Ingredients

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup strong brewed espresso, cooled
  • 2 tablespoons coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 1824 ladyfingers
  • Cocoa powder for dusting

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until creamy.
  2. Heat the milk in a saucepan, then whisk it into the egg mixture.
  3. Cook over low heat, stirring until thickened into a custard.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  5. Whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form, then fold in the mascarpone until smooth.
  6. Combine espresso and coffee liqueur in a shallow dish.
  7. Dip each ladyfinger quickly into the espresso mixture.
  8. Layer the ladyfingers in a serving dish, then spread half of the mascarpone mixture on top.
  9. Repeat with another layer of ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.
  10. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  11. Dust with cocoa powder just before serving.

Notes

For best flavor, make a day in advance. Ensure ingredients are room temperature for better texture.
