Delightful homemade cinnamon rolls with a buttery cinnamon-sugar filling, perfect for any occasion.

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar, divided
  • 1 packet (2¼ teaspoons) instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup whole milk, warm
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • ½ cup sweetened condensed milk
  • ½ cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk (to desired consistency)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm milk with the instant yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Let rest until frothy.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, combine flour, remaining sugar, and salt.
  3. Combine wet ingredients: Add melted butter, eggs, and vanilla to the flour mixture, then stir in the yeast mixture.
  4. Knead the dough: Turn onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Let it rise: Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour, until doubled in size.
  6. Prepare the filling: Blend softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until combined.
  7. Roll out the dough: Roll to a large rectangle and spread the cinnamon filling evenly.
  8. Shape the rolls: Roll tightly from one edge and slice into 1-2 inch pieces.
  9. Second rise: Place in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
  10. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Prepare the tres leches mixture: Combine whole milk, sweetened condensed milk, and evaporated milk.
  12. Soak the rolls: Pour the milk mixture over warm rolls right after baking.
  13. Glaze the rolls: Whisk powdered sugar with milk until smooth and drizzle over soaked rolls.

Notes

Make-ahead tips: Prepare the dough the night before, refrigerate, and allow to rise before baking. For crispy exterior, cook rolls in an air fryer at 320°F (160°C) for 15 minutes.
